Yes, you read that right! Healthy caramel dipping sauce really does exist – at least it does in my world!
For my entire life, I’ve battled with a sweet tooth that sometimes feels like it’s jacked up on steroids. It’s relentless sometimes, quite annoying most times and incredibly difficult when I’m trying to eat healthier! When I was younger, I would force myself to cut sweets out of my diet for periods at a time, usually when I was trying hard to eat healthier and get in better shape. My thinking was that surely this hideous visitor would just find some other door to knock on and settle in with it’s new owner. But…the joke was on me! What I found is that I ate so many calories trying to dodge my unwelcome friend that I probably would have been better off just eating the dang sugar in the first place.
And then entered my new best friend…in the food world…healthy caramel dipping sauce! I have other food friends that help me eat clean when I’m trying to dodge the sugar bully, but this healthy caramel dipping sauce is one of my Faves!
The recipe is inspired by my sister and friend Michelle, who has an incredible recipe collection filled with healthy indulgences. If you’re interested in recipes that are not only packed with flavor, but also good for your gut and peace of mind, check out her cookbook on her Etsy site.
My version of this tasty companion to veggies, fruit and a host of other tantalizing, yet healthy snacks packs in the flavor of pure vanilla, cinnamon and a hint of sea salt, giving it a bold salted caramel taste without the associated guilt.
Here’s how to make it!
Healthy Caramel Dipping Sauce
1/4 cup nut butter (peanut, almond, etc)
1/4 cup local, raw honey
1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/2 – 1 tsp cinnamon
Pinch of sea salt
Mix all ingredients together well and ENJOY!!
The best thing about this tasty little concoction is that it isn’t just a dipping sauce! I’ve used it as a frosting, as a sandwich spread and (my favorite) as the center in an individual sized double chocolate lava cake with a sea salted caramel filling. I’ll post this recipe later! It’s sugar free, packed with protein and doesn’t skimp on the taste in the least bit. It’s the perfect go to when you’re trying to be healthy but have a huge craving for chocolate!
Let me know if you decide to make it. I’d love to hear how it turned out and what you think! And…don’t forget to follow on Instagram!
